Windows 8.x Explorer Rebar Tweaker 0.4.2.3 by DBlake1 Windows 8.x Explorer Rebar Tweaker 0.4.2.3 by DBlake1
Here's another little program I've been working on for the last few days. This time, a program that allows you to tweak the Explorer Navigation Pane (or Rebar as Windows calls it).

DOWNLOAD 0.4.2.3: adf.ly/o7tud

DIRECT: mega.co.nz/#!kJ9m0CQA!zc_IILNb…
ALTERNATE (OneDrive): goo.gl/OZP0lu

This allows you to:
- Hide the Up button
- Hide the Search bar
- Change padding after the search bar
- Change padding before and after the address bar
- Change the padding before the Nav buttons

All settings are configurable in the settings.ini file or with the new configuration GUI.

BE SURE that you extract the settings.ini IN THE SAME FOLDER with the EXE for your OS architecture (normal or x64).

I hate to sound like a beggar, but would you please consider donating a few pennies to me so I can finally purchase Windows Style Builder? I have great theme ideas (as you've probably seen).

Thank you for your support! I'm constantly working on this tool, adding little tweaks here and there, so be sure to :+fav: this so you don't miss any updates!

Do you know how to change the background color of the rebar? That would be the only thing I wanted to tweak.

Does not work. I use only Ribbon Disabler for Windows 8 by hb860.

Any chance to hide the "Organize" menu under the rebar? I want it gone! Any help would be appreciated.

Also this program does not work for me anymore. I am on Windows 8.1 and I had luck in the beginning but now the tweaker has no effect and the all the stuff that worked from the start is reset to default. So help with that needed to. Keep up the good work and thanks a lot for sharing! PEACE.

Worked fine for me when I used it. If you use any other utilities that change the rebar it won't work.

Hi, thank you for your hard work.
Is there a way to get rid of the help button?

Version 0.4.2.3 is out! I improved the code a bit in this release. I also added a new "Run at Startup" option to the tray menu.

I know. This is something that won't be fixed. It uses far too much memory and CPU power to check each window on the system for existence of the Up button, Search bar and Padding elements.

Maybe there’s a way to only check specific window types (like the one in the screenshot)? For example, your program wouldn’t check normal Google Chrome windows, but would check Open / Save dialogs of Chrome.

I have been experiencing allot of explorer restarts using this tool, I have it set to start with windows but allot of the time when I open the first window explorer will restart, sometimes if you open a window again just after the restart it will restart again, if you leave it a few seconds though the window will open, not sure if it's only x64 related or if it could possibly be the padding settings I am using, I have it set to -3 after search and -6 before the nav buttons.

here is what I have in event viewer.

Hmm, I haven't been having any issues at all. I use Windows 8.1 x64 with all latest updates. I might know a solution; though I'm not too sure.

It's fine once a window has been opened successfully, every window after that will not have a problem, it just seems to be the first initial window after you log on, like it's trying to load the changes and fails, it's not every time but it does seem to be fairly regular, I'm also running on VMware so maybe that could have something to do with it as well, I did try changing the padding to see if that made a difference, I had them all set to 0 but still had the restarts.

I started over from scratch and I think I solved the issue. Unfortunately, this means the program needs to be restarted to apply changes, but I added a "Restart program" menu item to counter that.

It seems that the method I use (shell hooking) needs to wait until explorer is fully loaded before applying tweaks. Unfortunately, I don't know how to counter that in autoit as of now.

New version is going to be released momentarily. Here's what's added/changed:
- "Navigation buttons width" changed to "Padding before Nav buttons" to reflect what it actually does
-- The Padding setting now starts at 0 instead of 83, making for less confusion
- Reworked Up button and Search bar hide method to be compatible with more themes
- Added setting to change padding before Address bar
- Added donate link in ConfigurationGUI.exe
-- Donate link is as non-intrusive as possible, so no pop-ups or garbage like that
-- Can be hidden by manually editing the INI file
- Cleaned up/optimized code so it runs a bit better/uses a little less memory

Just place a shortcut to the main EXE in your Startup folder (located in "%APPDATA%\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Startup").

Oh, I know how to start it on startup, I was just wondering if it was a temp-fix (like it is) or if it edited the registry/theme dll files haha. Might try it out soon!

I've yet to download it, however does it support changing the height of the nav buttons as well as the width?

The height of the nav buttons is changed by making the nav buttons taller in the MSStyles.

My mistake, I'm still thinking of Windows Vista/7 days. But the width also updates with the buttons in the msstyles. Unless I'm missing something. i.cubeupload.com/YnwbkC.png

The program looks great and works great as well. Do you plan to add a UI to this little program? It'll be great if you do as it'll help people in applying the tweaks easily without modifying the INI file manually. :)
